2026 RPCQ Ekka Breakfast with Terry Nolan: Building an Agricultural Legacy

Posted by Rural Press Club QLD on 7 August 2026

A sell-out crowd filled the room for this morning’s 2026 Rural Press Club Ekka Breakfast, with the unmistakable buzz that comes when friends, colleagues and people from across Queensland agriculture come together.

Fittingly, relationships were at the heart of this year’s Annual Malcolm McCosker Memorial Address. Terry Nolan of Nolan Meats shared an honest, deeply personal and at times emotional reflection on family, business, mentors, industry and the many people who have shaped his life.

After a particularly significant year, including the loss of his brother Tony and the prospect of nearing the end of his time as an owner of Nolan Meats, Terry reflected on how quickly life passes and what ultimately matters.

Drawing on a lifetime in Queensland’s meat and agricultural industries, he spoke about the people who opened doors, shared their wisdom, took a chance, offered a hand and sometimes simply took the time to care. His message was a powerful reminder that progress rarely happens alone. Be curious. Give back. Share what you know. Be brave. Have a go. And above all, build and nurture relationships.

Perhaps the sentiment that best captured the morning came towards the end of Terry’s address:
“In the end relationships may be all any of us have of any real value. Cherish them. Foster them in business and in life.” A moving address, and a fitting message at an event that has been bringing city and country together and creating relationships for generations.

Thank you, Terry, for sharing your story so generously, and thank you to everyone who joined us for a memorable morning at the 2026 RPC Ekka Breakfast.

A special thank you to our valued sponsors Australian Retirement Trust, Westpac, Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority and Legacy Livestock for their valuable support, and to Kent Saddlery for generously providing our Lucky Door Prize.

Events like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of our sponsors and the wonderful rural and agricultural community that continues to get behind the Rural Press Club of Queensland.
