Celebrating Rural Women: RPCQ Lunch with ABC Landline Producer Cathie Schnitzerling

Cathie Schnitzerling shares a powerful message of resilience at Rural Women’s Day luncheon

Courage, connection and the strength to ask for help were central to Cathie Schnitzerling’s keynote address at the Rural Press Club of Queensland’s International Day of Rural Women luncheon in Brisbane on Wednesday, 15 October 2025.

The award-winning television and radio reporter, presenter and ABC Landline producer shared a deeply personal story, tracing moments of tenderness, loss and extraordinary tenacity. Her reflections highlighted the relationships that sustain us through adversity and the importance of remaining authentic through life’s challenges.

A doyen of rural journalism and a steadfast advocate for women, Cathie reminded guests that true resilience is not simply stoicism. Sometimes, the greatest strength lies in saying, “I need help.”

Her message challenged the idea that courage means carrying difficulties alone. Instead, she highlighted the value of acknowledging vulnerability, accepting support and drawing strength from those around us.

Family was a thread throughout her address, particularly the guiding influence of grandmothers. Cathie reflected on the wisdom, care and example passed between generations, recognising the enduring impact of women whose strength continues to shape families and communities.

Her story was a masterclass in courage, connection and authenticity, offering insights that resonate with women and men across rural and regional Australia.

The luncheon provided an opportunity to celebrate rural women’s contributions while bringing members and guests together for conversation and networking. Cathie’s address added a personal dimension to that celebration, recognising both women’s remarkable tenacity and their need for care and connection.

The Rural Press Club of Queensland thanks Cathie for sharing her experiences with honesty and generosity, and for her continuing contribution to rural journalism and advocacy for women.

The Club also gratefully acknowledges sponsors McCullough Robertson, Colliers and Australian Retirement Trust for making the event possible and supporting this celebration of rural women.
